National Marine Educators Association Youth Conference
Over the past three years, Sean has worked with the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) to develop strategies to increase youth membership and engagement in the organization, in an effort to support the next generation of marine science educators. Through this effort, Sean helped create the NMEA Youth Engagement Committee, and oversaw efforts to launch the first NMEA Youth Conference. This event, which was held in June of 2016 in conjunction with the annual NMEA Conference effectively integrated high school and college students into the organization, while offering a variety of workshops, sessions, and professional development opportunities for these young people.

Sea Youth Rise Up
Sean is the co-creator of the Sea Youth Rise Up Campaign, a collaborative initiative between The Ocean Project, World Oceans Day network, Youth Ocean Conservation Summit, and the Big Blue & You. Launched in 2016, this unique initiative utilized World Oceans Day as an opportunity to highlight the importance of youth leadership in the field of ocean conservation and amplify the stories of young conservation leaders to a global audience. Sean helped coordinate an international network of partners to support this campaign and helped oversee logistics for the event, which brought together 7 outstanding conservation leaders from the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas to New York City and Washington D.C. to speak up for the importance of ocean conservation. Sean worked with fellow event organizers and partners to create opportunities to engage these students in sharing their conservation work through a live World Oceans Day broadcast from the New York Aquarium reaching hundreds of viewers from countries including New Zealand Greece, Pakistan, the Bahamas, Romania, Canada, Germany, Curacao, India, Somalia, United Kingdom, Montserrat and the United States. Student delegates also had the opportunity to attend the United Nations World Oceans Day reception, advocate for the creation of marine protected areas during a roundtable meeting with the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and participate in Capitol Hill Oceans Week. Sean also helped coordinate a media campaign behind this effort, engaging diverse partnering organizations in advocating for youth leadership in the field of ocean conservation.

Florida 4-H Day at the Capitol
As a high school student and Florida 4-H State Council Officer, Sean was tasked with working with a committee of fellow students to revitalize Florida 4-H Day at the Capitol – an annual outreach and awareness event held in Tallahassee, FL to highlight the 4-H program to legislators - a traditionally under attended event lacking an organized structure. Working with a student team and adult advisors, Sean helped reshape this event – creating an organized schedule of activities and government education programs for participants, developing an event registration system, implementing a statewide marketing plan, securing grant funding to provide bus transportation for participants coming from across the state at low costs, and developing educational resources to prepare students for the event. As a result of these efforts, in 2009 Florida’s 4-H Day at the Capitol saw a record attendance of over 550 youth participants – a 400% increase over previous years. The event has continued to be one of the largest hosted by the Florida 4-H program.
